September 9th, 2020 was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Against the backdrop of crisis after crisis in 2020, it hardly seemed surprising. Fitting almost. I remember waking up confused, thinking it was early morning, then realizing things weren’t right. I looked out my window halfway expecting to see the four horsemen of the apocalypse on the horizon. The streets were nearly abandoned, headlights jarringly white in contrast to the dark orange skies. I will never forget this day.
These photos were all taken in the early afternoon.
