Pandemic Pastimes
Like many others, the pandemic brought with it a complete change in routine. In the depths of lockdown, I was looking for ways to bring small bits of joy to others in those turbulent times. What started as some sidewalk chalk in my neighborhood became a regular practice, and evolved into small land arts, renegade gnomes, and the occasional painting. I’d see how much these snippets of cheer could get people on the street to smile in a time when we many were struggling, and that in turn was helpful for me in navigating that difficult period.
Aside from paintings at a local park where it is informally sanctioned, I use only temporary mediums and enjoy the ephemeral nature of land art and chalk. While I do not create these in the frequency I did in those early days, I still try do so occasionally. You can see more on my Instagram @minute.musings.
