Clothing Repair Workshops

I’m passionate about repair. I host clothing repair workshops and support a number of local Bay Area groups as a mending coach.

For the most recent workshop I hosted, we opened with a talk about why it’s important, followed by an open flow workshop with three stations for consultations, hand repair, and sewing machine repair. Attendees were given a resource guide I created which includes sustainable fashion tips and resources specific to the Bay Area.

The talk closed with this ode to repair I wrote. I find it to be the best summary of why repair is a practice for me that goes beyond utility.

Repair is protest. Repair is love.

It’s a small act of resistance.

Against consumerism. Against overproduction. Against our unsustainable and exploitative culture of disposability.

It’s also an act of love.

For the materials that comprise it, and their cultivation. For the countless hands who made the garment, generally underpaid and overworked.

I repair to honor them.

And I repair for me, as a way to fix something small in a broken world.
